Karolis Vaitulionis works as a Business Unit Manager, responsible for sales and developing new markets. His team includes seven people, including the logistics department, which keeps them closely involved in daily operations and in direct contact with both suppliers and customers.

This April marks ten years for him in the meat industry. Over that time he has seen price spikes, supply shortages, animal-disease disruptions, and geopolitical shocks, all of which shaped the ability to react quickly and stay calm when markets shift without warning.

What products or markets do you focus on?

Our main products include chicken thigh and leg meat, pork trimmings, fats, loins, collars, and earflaps. In terms of markets, we mainly work across the Baltics, the Balkans, and Scandinavia. Each region has its own dynamics, so understanding local demand and maintaining strong supplier relationships is very important.

What’s the biggest challenge in today’s trade environment?

One of the biggest challenges today is the level of global uncertainty. Geopolitical tensions, along with animal diseases such as bird flu and African swine fever, can quickly disrupt supply chains and change market conditions. In this environment, traders have to stay informed, react quickly, and constantly adapt.

What makes a reliable trading partner?

A reliable partner looks beyond their own profit and also cares about the long-term growth of their clients. In this industry, trust and reputation are everything. Keeping your word, communicating openly, and building strong relationships over time are what create real partnerships.

One piece of advice for someone entering this business?

Be prepared to learn constantly. The meat trade moves fast and there is always something new happening. Communication is extremely important, but so is confidence. You have to trust yourself when making decisions.

In reality, you need to watch all markets. The meat business is very global, and developments in one region can quickly influence prices and demand somewhere else.

Price volatility remains a major challenge, along with supply disruptions caused by diseases or geopolitical tensions. On top of that, rising logistics and energy costs and strong global competition make the trading environment increasingly complex.
