What Is Davos and Why It Matters
Every year world leaders, business chiefs and experts meet at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland to talk about global problems and possible solutions. The forum tries to improve the world by getting governments, companies and thinkers to work together.
Big Meat Company Speaks at Davos
At the Davos meeting, Gilberto Tomazoni, CEO of JBS — the world’s largest meat producer — spoke about food and the environment. He said:
Making food sustainable must not make it too expensive.
Poorer people must still be able to afford nutrition.
Small farmers need help to use new technology and farming methods.
He also took part in panels where he urged support for rural producers to fight climate change, arguing that giving technical and financial support to farmers helps reduce greenhouse gases.
Partnerships on Sustainable Meat Production
In earlier years at the World Economic Forum, JBS teamed up with sustainability groups to improve farming in Brazil. One goal was to register 1 million calves with traceability so it is easier to track their origin and make production more sustainable.
Food Systems and the Environment
The World Economic Forum has also hosted discussions about rethinking food systems — meaning looking at how food is grown, transported and eaten and how this affects the planet. Experts at these events said food systems need big change if we want healthy people and a healthy planet.
Farmers Are a Key Part of the Solution
Recent statements connected to Davos stress that farmers should not be left out of climate change talks. Smallholder farmers can play a big role in protecting nature and creating resilient food systems if they are given the support they deserve.
In short: At Davos, world leaders and the meat industry are trying to find ways to make food systems better for people and the planet. Farmers and sustainable practices are a big part of that conversation, and companies like JBS are calling for help to make changes that work for everyone.
