Child Dies, Others Sick After Eating Meat in France
A young girl has died and several children are sick after eating contaminated meat in northern France.

What Happened?
In Saint-Quentin, northern France, eight children got severe food poisoning after eating meat from two butcher shops. Sadly, a 12-year-old girl passed away.
The Cause
Doctors say the children were infected with a rare illness called Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (HUS). This sickness often happens after eating food contaminated with E. coli, a dangerous bacteria that can cause kidney failure and other serious problems.
Shops Closed for Safety
Authorities closed the two butcher shops while they investigate. It’s not confirmed yet if the meat from these shops caused the illnesses, but all the children ate products from there shortly before getting sick.
What’s Next?
Health officials are testing samples from the shops. Results are expected soon. The source of the contaminated meat is still under investigation.
A Bigger Concern
Each year, around 100 to 165 children in France get sick from HUS. Similar E. coli outbreaks have happened in the U.S., linked to ground beef, carrots, and even fast food.
Stay Safe Tip:
Always cook meat well, wash hands after handling raw food, and stay informed about food recalls in your area.
